Description

Beautiful Dutch Tortoiseshell & Silver Spoon box with an almost Clamshell shape, it stands on four turned bone feet and has an ornate silvered escutcheon to the front.

The interior of this Antique Torotiseshell spoon box has its original removable silk cushion to protect the transparent tortoiseshell lid and help keep the fourteen spoons from moving. It’s lined with red silk and velvet, faced in Ivorine and has brass hinges & lock. The base still contains its original mirror plate and shaped compartments which holds the solid silver spoons nice and securely.

The antique silver spoons are by Dutch Silversmith : Adrianus Kuijlenburg Pz and dated 1878

With a fully working lock and tasselled key. The key must be turned clockwise to unlock.

To operate any old locks and it’s good practice to try the key with the box in the open position, (so with the box open). Place the key in the lock and turn anticlockwise to lock, this way you get to feel the tolerance of the lock and see how it works. The key must be turned clockwise to unlock. Once you have tried and tested the lock & key with the box in the open position you should be confident now how the box locks and unlocks.
