From our Tea Caddy collection, we are pleased to offer this late Miniature Salesman Sample Georgian Sarcophagus Mahogany Tea Caddy. The Tea Caddy shaped in sarcophagus form made from Mahogany with a raised convex lid and gently tapered body raised on four circular ribbed feet. The exterior of the Tea Caddy is finished with a circular brass escutcheon to the front panel. To the inside of the Tea Caddy, two compartments are encased with Mahogany lids surmounted by turned bone handles covering compartments with traces of the original silver foil lining. The Tea Caddy dates to the late Georgian period during the reign of William IV circa 1835. This Tea Caddy is of an unusually small form measuring only 24.5cm Wide (9.65 Inches) and most probably a salesman sample, very rare example.

Mahogany is the name given to many types of tropical hardwood and can be found in Africa, India and South America, most of which are a red-brown colour with a fine, even grain. This makes it easily workable and gives it a durable finish which attributes to its popularity with many kinds of furniture.
