Description

Featured here is a George III Flame Mahogany Silver Antique Tea Chest with a fancy ornate scrolling handle and a stunning escutcheon.

Elegantly standing on four shaped Silver ball-and-claw feet, the interior of this extravagant Antique Tea Chest is lined in a classic wine-red velvet. This lining protects three serpentined, high-quality Sterling Silver Tea Caddies inside the chest, these are by Renowned Silversmith William Vincent of London, all fully marked for 1768. Topped with wonderfully detailed roses, the beautiful Sterling Silver Tea Caddies are exquisitely decorated with beautiful floral details.

This charming Mahogancy Tea Chest is pictured and presented in the expertly researched book: The Story of British Tea Chests and Caddies by Anne Stevens, (Part 1.Chapter 2, at the bottom of Page 41),  an in-depth study of the relevance of tea, tea chests and caddies to British society – this is a must-buy book for historians, collectors and those interested in the decorative arts.

An elegant tasselled key that operates a fully operational lock is included with this classic George III Mahogany Tea Chest, so you can freely lock and unlock the chest.

Dimensions of the two silver Tea Caddies: L 8 x W 6 x H 14cm. Dimensions of the Silver Sugar Caddy : L 8 x W 8 x H 14cm

Each silver tea caddy is fully hallmarked as are the two lids for the tea caddies, the sugar lid is the only caddy not to show any marks, we believe this must have worn away due to usage.
