Description

Kingwood writing box with inlaid floral brass n the front and top. Brass escutcheons and edging, and flush campaign carry handles on either side.

Inside features a gold tooled black leather writing surface, framed by brass stringing, a pen tray and two ink wells. Lifting the front of the writing surface reveals a storage area and crossed ribbon backing on the surface. The rear of the writing surface can be lifted to reveal further storage space with a ribbon backing. This also where the secret drawers can be found, which are accessed by removing the top right ink well and pressing the base inline with the three brass dots on the edge of the compartment. This will cause the rear wall of the storage area to spring forward revealing two hidden bone handled drawers.

On the back of each half of the writing surface are the remains of labels which read:
“Halstaff & Hannaford. Manufacturers. 228. Regent St”

This writing box comes with a fully working lock and tasselled key.
