Just Hour Lavigne Movement

From our Accessories collection, we are delighted to offer this French Art Deco Green Marble Clock. The clock finished in solid green and black marble features a square face, with alternating tapered oval mounts to the top and raised upon an oval stem with a rectangular base. The clock dial is finished in silver plating with green and black numerals in a simple yet elegant Art Deco design. The clock can be accessed from the rear door allowing the user to change the time and wind the clock. The movement is stamped Just in the rear by Hour Lavigne. The clock has been fully serviced and cleaned during our conservation process and is ready to place straight into the home. The Clock dates to the 20th century Art Deco period circa 1930.

The clock comes with a key to wind and set the time.

Hour Lavigne After the first world war, manufacturers Hour Lavigne revolutionised the concept of what a clock could look like. While other manufacturers were using traditional movements housed in more stylised frames, Hour Lavigne decided to transform all parts of the clock – the hands, the dial, the numbers and the casing would all get the Art Deco treatment, making for some truly beautiful and unique clocks. Many of these clocks were one off pieces as this was before mass production. Hour Lavigne soon realised there was a demand for high quality individual clocks in this new Art-Nouveau style, so they included many in their “Just” range, which had started with watches, in the early 1900’s.

Art Deco was a style of visual arts, architecture, and product design that first appeared in France in the 1910s. It flourished in the United States and Europe during the 1920s to early 1930s. It was hugely prevalent through styling and design of the exterior and interior of anything from large structures to small objects and even influenced fashion and jewellery. Art Deco has influenced bridges, buildings, ships, ocean liners, trains, cars, trucks, buses, furniture, and everyday objects like radios and vacuum cleaners. It has become extremely popular today and is highly desirable to collectors and trendsetters in the fashion industry.
