Description

Large CoromandelCorrespondence box by Houghton & Gun with flush brass carrying handle on the top and brass monogram on the front.

To open the box it first needs unlocking with a key, then you push down on the pin of the lock that protrudes from the barrel this will then allow the front of this box to drop forward to reveal a red leather writing surface. The interior of the box features several compartments for storing letter and stationery. Either side of the main compartments are small leather bound boxes labelled “matches which also has a strike plate inside, “stamps” containing some old stamps and Inkwell which is a travelling inkwell.

There is also four leather bound books labelled “Letter Register, Cash Account, Diary and Addresses” which sit either side of the main storage compartment. The middle of the writing box has a stationery compartment with several compartments, this tilts forward by pressing a brass catch for easier access.

The writing box has a secret drawer to the side which can opened by pulling on the divider between “Bills Paid” & “Bills Unpaid”

On the base near the top of the writing surface is a makers label which reads: “Houghton & Gunn 162.New Bond St. 017”

This box comes with a fully working lock and tasselled key.
