This Black Forest Tobacco Box is in the form of a Gorilla’s head. The exquisitely carved “gorilla” has incredibly realistic glass eyes and the top of its head is hinged, revealing a smoothly-carved void.

In whatever manner tobacco was consumed, tobacco boxes were used to maintain freshness and to protect it from moisture. Large, specially designed containers were made for storing the tobacco, whereas for everyday use, smaller, pocket-sized boxes were necessary.
