Mahogany body with Brass Quadrant Edging Circa 1840

From our Boxes collection, we are pleased to offer this early English Victorian Solid Mahogany Jewellery Box. The box dating to the first half of the 19th century is beautifully formed in a rectangular shape having brass quadrant edging with a central circle vacant initial plaque to the lid. To each side flush recessed brass handles feature allowing the box to easily be moved. The interior features a royal blue crushed velvet lining with a central removable Mahogany tray exposing a further storage compartment below. The facing features decorative brass strengthening columns in each corner elevating the quality of the box while adding extra durability. The lock plate is stamped Bramah for the renowned Bramah lock company.

The box comes with a working lock and key.

Bramah is London’s oldest security company. Established at 124 Piccadilly, London in 1784, and today based in Fitzrovia, London and Romford, Essex. Bramah manufactures Bramah and Rola locks for domestic and commercial applications in the U.K. and overseas. We are Marylebone and Fitzrovia’s foremost Locksmith and Burglar Alarm installer.

Mahogany is the name given to many types of tropical hardwood and can be found in Africa, India and South America, most of which are a red-brown colour with a fine, even grain. This makes it easily workable and gives it a durable finish which attributes to its popularity with many kinds of furniture.
